Suites Hotel launch new community project with Hack Back CIC

Suites Hotel Knowsley proudly support Hack-Back CIC, a truly fantastic charity, in fact it’s like no-other.

Hack Back CIC is a social enterprise which was set up in 2012 to improve the mental health and well-being of people of all ages. Hack Back CIC works with a wide range of individuals (adults, young people and children) improving their well-being and helping them to achieve their full potential in life. Hack Back CIC provide interventions that are underpinned by psychological theory and practice. What makes them different is their unique approach. A team of psychologists-including Anita Morris, combine psychological therapies with interaction with Birds of Prey. Hack Back uses birds of prey to work with people who have conditions such as Autism, other learning disabilities, Alzheimer’s and even domestic violence victims. Hack Back have helped and can help many more people and children who are disadvantaged in many ways. There are also many more example of the excellent work which Anita and her team do and this shows us how important it is to support a charity like Hack Back.

Hack-Back_logo

When you speak with Anita you realise how passionate she is about her work and the real enjoyment she receives from seeing the benefits of her techniques. Last week, Suites Hotel had some VIP guests at the hotel, Murray- an American Burrowing Owl, Mango- a beautiful Barn Owl and Idris an African Spotted Eagle Owl met with MD Peter Tyer to introduce themselves to some of the team and discuss a new community project. Hack Back have struggled to get funding in recent times as the assumption is often that the money will be spent on the birds. The birds’ upkeep and welfare are actually supported by Cheshire Falconry without whom Hack Back wouldn’t exist.

The new project funded by MD Peter Tyer and Marketing Director Lyndsay Tyer in partnership with Northwood Primary School in Kirkby within which Hack Back will work with children with additional needs. Suites Hotel are pleased to hear that over 40 children will benefit from the kind donation. In addition to meeting the Hack Back owls the children will receive copies of Murray the Smallest Owl book and enjoy a session aimed at recognising individual talents, and building self-esteem and confidence. Murray the owl has already visited the school and the children are looking forward to working with him again before they finish for the summer.

Twilight Club

Twilight Club Featured Image

With the launch of our new Twilight Club Membership, this week’s blog is all about the benefits of an evening workout. Read on to find out how a “twilight” workout can do wonders!

While most people say mornings are the best time to exercise, according to many fitness experts exercising in the evening after work is a great way to burn fat and also relieve you of stress and worries.

How does this happen?

Evening workouts are often considered to be positive alternatives for those who want to begin or maintain an exercise routine and make the time to add some physical fitness at the end of their long busy day.

Here are a few advantages…

  • Ensures better sleep: Working out in the evening will ensure that you sleep well. Workouts in the evening might seem invigorating initially and then will slowly lead to a sense of restfulness. The physical exercise will expend your energy and will prepare your body for a night of rest.

  • You don’t have to deal with the morning rush: The best part about working out in the evenings is that you have more time for yourself in the mornings before you go out for work. Since it is difficult for working people to incorporate workout hours in the morning, evenings are the ideal time.

  • More relaxing: Evening workouts usually don’t seem as tiring because it’s seen as more of a recreation activity. Evening workouts are more of a stress buster.

  • Burn more calories: One of the best points of working out in the evening is that you can burn more calories, after all the eating that you’ve done throughout the day.

  • You’re more physically prepared. Assuming you’re not working out so late that you’re tired, your nervous system will be more ready for a great workout than in the morning!  With more energy stored in your body from your food intake during the day, your body is more fueled to train power and strength with more oomph!

  • It’s safer for power and strength workouts. Many fitness experts agree that exercises—like squats—should be performed in the evening, doing that type of work in the morning is not as effective or potentially as safe as in the evening.

  • You will have a calmer morning. This point may seem obvious, but not having to squeeze in your workout before running to the office means you’ll have a less-rushed morning. You might even have time for a proper breakfast instead of just grabbing a something on-the-go. But the best part? You can take your time in the evening. Maybe even enjoy the sauna and steam room!

British Sandwich Week

BSW_2015_date

So this week has been British Sandwich week! And who doesn’t love a sandwich?!

Oxford English Dictionary defines a sandwich as “an item of food consisting of two pieces of bread with a filling between them, eaten as a light meal.” Seems like a simple enough concept. So, who came up with this innovative way of serving food? While I’m sure the Earl of Sandwich would like all the credit, the true history of the sandwich goes back much further.

Most of us have heard of the fourth Earl of Sandwich, otherwise known as John Montagu. In the late 1700’s, French writer Pierre-Jean Grosley recounted his observations of English life in a book called Londres (translated to English under the name A Tour to London). In the book, a few lines were written that forever tied this food invention to the Earl of Sandwich:

A minister of state passed four and twenty hours at a public gaming-table, so absorpt in play, that, during the whole time, he had no subsistence but a piece of beef, between two slices of toasted bread, which he eat without ever quitting the game. This new dish grew highly in vogue, during my residence in London; it was called by the name of the minister who invented it.

While it is not clear if this anecdote is completely true, the book gained popularity and the story took hold. Soon the name was official—when you ate two pieces of bread with something in the middle, you were eating a “sandwich.”

To celebrate have put together our top 5 Favourite Sandwiches and wraps!
