With the launch of our new Twilight Club Membership, this week’s blog is all about the benefits of an evening workout. Read on to find out how a “twilight” workout can do wonders!

While most people say mornings are the best time to exercise, according to many fitness experts exercising in the evening after work is a great way to burn fat and also relieve you of stress and worries.

How does this happen?

Evening workouts are often considered to be positive alternatives for those who want to begin or maintain an exercise routine and make the time to add some physical fitness at the end of their long busy day.

Here are a few advantages…

• Ensures better sleep: Working out in the evening will ensure that you sleep well. Workouts in the evening might seem invigorating initially and then will slowly lead to a sense of restfulness. The physical exercise will expend your energy and will prepare your body for a night of rest.

• You don’t have to deal with the morning rush: The best part about working out in the evenings is that you have more time for yourself in the mornings before you go out for work. Since it is difficult for working people to incorporate workout hours in the morning, evenings are the ideal time.

• More relaxing: Evening workouts usually don’t seem as tiring because it’s seen as more of a recreation activity. Evening workouts are more of a stress buster.

• Burn more calories: One of the best points of working out in the evening is that you can burn more calories, after all the eating that you’ve done throughout the day.

• You’re more physically prepared. Assuming you’re not working out so late that you’re tired, your nervous system will be more ready for a great workout than in the morning!  With more energy stored in your body from your food intake during the day, your body is more fueled to train power and strength with more oomph!

• It’s safer for power and strength workouts. Many fitness experts agree that exercises—like squats—should be performed in the evening, doing that type of work in the morning is not as effective or potentially as safe as in the evening.

• You will have a calmer morning. This point may seem obvious, but not having to squeeze in your workout before running to the office means you’ll have a less-rushed morning. You might even have time for a proper breakfast instead of just grabbing a something on-the-go. But the best part? You can take your time in the evening. Maybe even enjoy the sauna and steam room!

So this week has been British Sandwich week! And who doesn’t love a sandwich?!

Oxford English Dictionary defines a sandwich as “an item of food consisting of two pieces of bread with a filling between them, eaten as a light meal.” Seems like a simple enough concept. So, who came up with this innovative way of serving food? While I’m sure the Earl of Sandwich would like all the credit, the true history of the sandwich goes back much further.

Most of us have heard of the fourth Earl of Sandwich, otherwise known as John Montagu. In the late 1700’s, French writer Pierre-Jean Grosley recounted his observations of English life in a book called Londres (translated to English under the name A Tour to London). In the book, a few lines were written that forever tied this food invention to the Earl of Sandwich:

A minister of state passed four and twenty hours at a public gaming-table, so absorpt in play, that, during the whole time, he had no subsistence but a piece of beef, between two slices of toasted bread, which he eat without ever quitting the game. This new dish grew highly in vogue, during my residence in London; it was called by the name of the minister who invented it.

While it is not clear if this anecdote is completely true, the book gained popularity and the story took hold. Soon the name was official—when you ate two pieces of bread with something in the middle, you were eating a “sandwich.”

Grow Your Business @ Suites Hotel Knowsley 2015 – Were You There?

Over 100 people attended the Grow Your Business event last week at Suites Hotel.

The event highlighted the specialist consultancy support delivered to Knowsley businesses during the past two years, through the Merseyside Business Support Programme (MBSP).

Guest speakers included Lynsey Merryweather, HR Manager at Clarke Energy and Pat Milligan, HR Manager at Abbey Engineering who shared their experiences of managing growth in their organisations.

Alan Seeley, HR Manager at Getrag and Chairman of Knowsley Chamber of Commerce, hosted the event.

Christina Ashworth a Change Specialist who has worked with businesses in Knowsley as part of MBSP also presented. Giving her views and experiences of developing businesses.

The Grow Your Business events are an important way for Knowsley businesses to engage with each other and to access any support they may need resulting in further investment and in the growth of the Knowsley economy.

It coincided with Knowsley becoming the first local authority in the Liverpool City Region to achieve its target on the MBSP programme with over 200 Knowsley based businesses receiving consultancy.

This extremely effective programme will stop delivery this summer but there is a last chance for Knowsley businesses to take advantage of the support.

The event was a huge success with numerous businesses in Knowsley attending.

Red Nose Day has been going since 1988 and has changed the lives of millions!

Since the last Red Nose Day, Comic Relief has spent £99 million helping over 12 million people – this includes money raised through Red Nose Day, Sport Relief and other fundraising!

Here a just a few examples of what previous donations have achieved!

• Between 1999 – 2008 the number of children attended school in sub-Saharan Africa increased by 46.5million!
• The number of new infections of HIV in Africa dropped by 21% between 1997 and 2010!
• Since 2000, the number of people dying from malaria across Africa has fallen by a third!
• In 2009 Comic Relief distributed 600,000 mosquito nets to 234,591 households in mid-western regions of Uganda!
